On the 7th of September 2023, a wonderful band of improvisers are opening their annual festival down in Nottingham – the Robinhood International Improv Festival. What’s super exciting is that this is an international meeting of improv creativity.
Now, this excites us no end up here in the Northwest, because the community that gave birth to the Oickers after all was a global one, united in the pyjama-framed camaraderie of reaching out from the socially-distanced (dis)comforts of each other’s homes online. This diverse community of all creatively-inclined, imaginative folks from all walks of life occasionally put a lot of effort into creating a space for all to congregate and share in one another’s expressions of the craft—–believe you me, the wide range of improv stuff out there is incredible!
This year, we are over the moon to take part in it. Now, it’s been a very significant year for the Oickers. Some are navigating tricky alleyways of the heart and soul while others are raising children, directing plays, arranging weddings, moving house. Through all that could hamper us, we’ve relied on the kindness and understanding of our friends and family, including the gooey Oicker love and respite we provide via our warm circle of improvisation.
Six of us get to represent the troupe on the 8th of September, Friday evening at 5 PM—and what a privilege it’ll be. If you’re knocking about in the Midlands, come find us! We’ve signed up for various courses across the weekend that follows our show, and would love to connect and say hello!
